Clutching fists on the corridor, we walked
Blinking eyes and with petty worries we talked
Dong went the bell to perch ourselves on the creaking teak bench
As the clock needle hugged a four, our cycles welcomed our shoe stench.
Years flowed like slithering snow
Wrapping us up in some life unknown
Many eyes met and many smiles seen
One fine morn your heart drove down to our road that's been
Smiles and whispers crooning our way
Your gentle 'hey'often moving me out of my cave
Hugs nor tears on your shoulders fell
As cushioned I was in your heart's well.
An ounce of doubt not, with my handful few
Whole or half of my buddy heart, what do I call you?
Pasting yourself on my anguished frame,
Walking tall as I fell short and so you came
Blessed am I to hold your hand
My dearest friend, without you I forget how to stand.
When folks talk of better halves,
Only some know of rare ones like you called the best half.
